Who was she? Was she Abigail, like the hunched old woman said? Or was she really Leah, the missing woman from another town? The one the papers all said had killed her husband and run off, leaving her small daughter behind.

Roman Black thought he knew, but was he right? And if he was right, why was someone trying to kill her? He had led them right to her, so now it was his responsibility to protect her. After all, if she died, he wouldn’t get paid for finding her. But was that the only reason he needed her alive?

This book is number six in the mini-series Without a Trace. It is the conclusion to a mystery begun in January with What Sarah Saw by Margaret Daley. All the authors in this series did an incredible job, working together to keep the facts straight, and the story flowing. They could not have picked a better author to conclude the series. Terri Reed’s marvelous control of the English language, and her vivid imagination kept this story moving from one exciting scene to another. I couldn’t turn the pages fast enough.

And the murderer – came as a complete shock to me. A wonderful read. Even though the story is part of a series, it stands alone very nicely.

Not the happiest of circumstances, made even more stressful by the appearance of Josh. Josh Taylor was the man she had left behind in order to become a doctor. Quite the sticky situation -- especially when Mom G asks her and Josh to look after each other after she’s gone.

Josh Taylor had wanted to marry Rachel as soon as they graduated from high school. He was determined she was never going to work, but would be his wife and the mother of his children, and her life would be full enough doing that. But Rachel had other ideas. She saw no reason why she couldn’t be a mother and a doctor. So they had parted ways. But now their paths had crossed again.

What would they do with the promise they had made to mom G? What did Rachel think of the young boy that appeared, calling Josh “dad”? Why did she have such a struggle to force herself to go into the emergency room?

In both these books, Terri Reed shows her talent with words by pulling you into the story right from the start. She uses her experience to make many twists and turns in each story, heightening the tension between hero and heroine until you can hardly wait to read one page before going on to the next.

Two powerful stories, each showing the love of God, and bringing a happy ending to two wonderful couples.

How do you think you’d feel if first you came across not one but two dead bodies, and then the police decided you had killed them both? That is the situation Megan found herself in. Nonetheless, she could not stop herself from being drawn to the investigator, Paul. Did he really think she was guilty? What was she hiding from him?

Paul watches Megan closely. He’s never met a murderer yet who didn’t proclaim his innocence. But she seems so truthful. So what is she hiding?

Megan works in an art gallery, she is organized, tidy, a hard worker, and loyal to a fault. She also has a problem she doesn’t want anyone to know about – or at least as few people as possible, and this list definitely does not include detective Paul Wallace.

The more time Paul spends with Megan, the more he comes to believe someone is trying to frame her for murder. But who? He keeps telling himself that he needs to stay close to her in order to keep her safe.

This is book number four in the McClains series by Terri Reed, and it’s every bit as good as the first three. In this story, the heroine was believed guilty by the police of something she had not done. To me, that is the ultimate in fear, second only to someone trying to kill you. I was terrified right along with Megan when both these fears came into her life. Yet I was so involved in the story that I couldn’t put the book down until I finished it. I loved the ending, how Paul finally realized that God had brought them together to compliment each other.

Love Inspired Suspense books have no sex in them, they do have reference to belief in God, and I find them a refreshing change from the books where the hero and heroine regularly fall into bed together throughout the stories. Terri Reed is a master when it comes to putting suspense and mystery into a wonderful love story.
