I so enjoyed the Australian “flavor” of this book. I love the differences in the languages, even though both are English. . . Lawson’s daughter was going on an “excursion” (we would say field trip) so Lawson asked if she had her “tuck-shop bags” (bagged lunch or snacks). Lawson pulled into the “set-down zone” (drop-off zone) in front of the school, and took a sip of his “take-away” (take-out) coffee.
Lawson was twelve years older than Victoria. He’d seen it all, been around the block, as they say, while she had lived at home with her dad and her brothers all her life. So why was he suddenly catching himself looking at her “that way”? It didn’t matter that she could understand his daughter better than he could, she was still way too young, and to top it off, she was the daughter of his boss.
Lawson and Victoria are both paramedics, partners, in fact. What medical emergency happened that caused them to cross the line from partners to “special” friends?
Amy has had eighteen other books published, and you can tell. She handles the story line like a pro, leading you along right where she wants you. I was ready to bash Lawson when he refused to admit he had feelings for Victoria. My heart was in my throat when they got that most important medical emergency call, and steam was coming out my ears while reading the intimate scenes. Whether Amy Andrews is an auto-buy for you, or a new-to-you author, this book is definitely worth reading.

Jason and Claire meet while she’s moving her things into the office right beside his in his medical practice. She’s a nurse practitioner, and he’s one of several doctors who work together. Claire was hired by the other doctors to take up some of the overbooking. There was immediate tension between the two of them, mostly brought on by the fact that Claire’s daughter was almost the same age as his Hanna, who had died in a train wreck, with her mother.
Jason didn’t like the way Claire diagnosed her patients, he didn’t like her being so helpful that he no longer had to work such long hours. He didn’t like. . . well, he didn’t like just about everything about her. So why was he so attracted to her? He had no intentions of ever falling in love again, but he just couldn’t seem to keep his eyes – or his hands – off her.
What was the reason her ex had divorced her? Did it have any relevance in her relationship with Jason?
This book was a pleasure to read. The characters were realistic and believable. They had problems just like real people, they laughed – and cried – just like real people. They fought, and made love, just like real people.
What did Jason see that caused him to laugh at Claire right at the start of their relationship? Why did he also yell at her on one of her first days working for him?
As usual, Lynne has given us a story to warm us to the depths of our heart. Her tantalizing use of the English language has found us sharing laughter and tears with Claire and Jason throughout the entire book. A book, I might add, that you won’t be sorry you read.
