All Work and No Play - Julie Cohen

Title: All Work and No Play

Author: Julie Cohen

Line: Modern Extra

Release month: June 2007

The S-Factor: Sizzling!!!

Back-Blurb:

She wasn't the kind of girl that gorgeous men flirted with. She was plain Jane Miller - great at her job, organised, efficient, sensible. Except that every time she met Jay's deep blue eyes, she knew he wanted her. And she wanted him - the guy was seriously sexy! Perhaps for a change it was time to let go and have the night of her life! After all, all work and no play makes Jane a very dull girl...

Review:

Oh my, where do I start?!! This is one seriously HOT book and should come with a warning!!!!

As soon as I read Julie Cohen's note to readers I knew
I was going to enjoy this read.

Jay/Jonny is a fantastic hero - and so sexy that the word doesn't do him justice. From the moment his character appeared I didn't stand a chance, and neither did Jane - although her willpower was second to none, because she did try!

This book isn't for the faint-hearted - it is the most sizzling Modern Extra that I have read to date. But with Jay/Jonny as the hero how could it not be..?

Hired By The Cowboy by Donna Alward

Title: Hired By The Cowboy

Author: Donna Alward

Line: Romance

Release month : May 2007

The S-Factor: Simmering/ Sweet

Back-Blurb:

Alexis Grayson is good at looking after herself—she's been doing it all her life. So what if she's alone and pregnant? She'll cope! But gorgeous cowboy Connor Madsen seems determined to take care of her. And Alexis can help him—he needs a temporary wife; she needs somewhere to live until the baby's born. A short-term marriage will solve all their difficulties!

As Alexis gets to know the courageous, honorable Connor, she realizes that she might have made the biggest mistake of her life. Because all this wife-for-hire wants is a marriage for real!
Review:

Hired by the Cowboy is Donna Alward’s debut book for Harlequin Romance and part of the Western Weddings series. It is absolutely a wonderful, sweet and tender love story and sure to melt any reader’s heart and make any cynic a true believer in romance and falling in love.

Can you imagine having no family, on your own with little money, no husband and a baby on the way, and you’re determined to take care of this new life? Well for Alexis Grayson that was the case and of all things she faints!

Connor Madsen, is one handsome and sexy cowboy and he has a serious problem. How will he save his previous Windover Ranch when his trust fund only becomes available to him upon marriage? Connor isn’t even dating anyone and the bank won’t lend him money, so what is he to do? As fate will have it Connor literally finds Alexis at his feet in a dead faint, and their story begins.

Connor immediately likes Alex, likes her strong character, determination, and sense of humour plus she’s not too hard on the eyes. As for Alex, Connor is one handsome cowboy, a gentleman so when he offers her a place to stay until the baby is born and to take care of her, can that be so bad? Think again! When she learns his plan that they must marry to save his ranch, she believes he’s lost his mind!

Donna’s development of both of these two characters is amazing as she uses their attraction for each other in a very sweet and emotional way. I found myself holding my breath to see if and when they would realize that they belonged together and even though they both used their immediate situations to solve immediate problems, in the end, their attraction, sensitivity and friendship for each other would form such a bond; they would soon see the light!

I would have never guessed this to be a debut book. I found Connor and Alex’s story sincere, sweet, romantic, having all of the elements which make a great love story! Thank you Donna, for Hired by The Cowboy. I personally can’t wait for the next Windover story, Marriage at Circle M.

Joel wrongly blames himself for the loss of Beth’s mother and their unborn child. He has vowed never to have more children, or put his little girl through any more trauma – until he meets his new colleague, SHO Lisa Richardson.

Lisa isn’t looking for commitment either, but she can’t resist Joel. One night they give in to temptation. Then Lisa discovers she’s pregnant…

Review:

I loved this story. It is packed with plenty of emotion, romance and excitement from the first paragraph. The moment Joel entered the scene I was hooked. He is one sexy and gorgeous hero, with major internal conflicts to deal with. This guy has suffered major trauma, and the pain continues to live on inside him. Sharing his pain was heartbreaking.

Kate Hardy has created a cast of wonderful characters, and little Beth, Joel’s daughter would melt the coldest of hearts. There is plenty of excitement created by the medical scenarios, and the love and heartfelt emotion between Lisa and Joel is palpable. Mills & Boon promise ‘…Pulse-racing romance – heart-racing medical drama’, and this book delivers all this and more!

Back-Blurb:

Whisked away to his exotic palace, she is astounded to learn that Rafiq himself paid the ransom to save her life – and that he expects her to show her gratitude…by marrying him!
Rafiq intends for Belle to carry out her royal duties – both in public and in private. And it isn’t long before she succumbs to the sultry heat of the desert and to Rafiq’s seduction. No longer his unwilling wife, Belle has become the Sheikh’s very willing lover…
Review:

From the very beginning, I was captivated, intrigued and on edge as this story begins with a kidnapping, a ferocious storm and two very captivating characters Rafiq (ruler and monarch) and Belle, a marine archaeologist who along with her co-worker was kidnapped and held for ransom. Immediately the stage is set as Belle and Rafiq are thrown together, he her protector and Belle with everything she’s been through, her strength and courage shows throughout in this desert tale.

Belle’s homeland was Australia; she and her sister were for the most part, raised by her mother. Belle is strong, beautiful, hard working and proud. She has come to Q’aroum to explore and excavate a sunken first century trading ship. She and her co-worker are kidnapped by Rafiq’s cousin and the ransom demanded is the “Peacock’s Eye” not only very valuable but of importance to the people of Q’aroim. For generations it has been the gift of the Sheikh to his bride and Rafiq has given it up in order to save Belle and her co-worker!

Rafiq, is like no other sheikh or monarch…….his character reminds me of something out of “The Arabian Nights”. He’s handsome, intelligent, fearsome and very proud and he wants Belle……he wants her for his bride! Sparks fly off of these two characters as they both fight their attraction to each other and along the way find their way into a romance you won’t forget. A tale of East and West, two such different cultures and people who find a bond, mutual respect and love!
This is Annie West’s first "sheikh" book and I personally feel was exceptional, full of intrigue, chemistry and a wonderful romance set on a desert isle.

Review:

Sold and Seduced is the third Mills and Boon Historical Romance by up and coming romance author Michelle Styles and it’s a wonderfully sensuous romantic tale featuring an intrepid heroine, a gorgeous hero and plenty of twists and turns to keep you entranced from beginning to end!

When senator’s daughter Lydia Veratia needed money to pay for her father’s medical bills and his medicines, she made the mistake of selling off a cargo of wine already earmarked for Fabius Aro, whom all of Rome has nicknamed the Sea Wolf – and now the Sea Wolf is knocking on her door demanding his wine.

Back-Blurb:

Feeling her baby's first kick was supposed to be a joyous moment for Colleen McKenna. When life dealt her the hardest blow, Colleen knew that she would have to summon up all her courage to cope with her pregnancy alone.

Now gorgeous millionaire Eamonn's kindness is testing her fierce independence. And having Eamonn Murphy's hand on her bump, feeling each tiny kick with her, makes every moment more special than the last….
Review:

Trish Wylie, Irish author obviously has a love for her country and horses making this particular reader long to travel to Ireland. Throughout the entire story, I felt as if I were there with both of these wonderful characters who had grown up together on a stud farm, Inisfree. The way Ms. Wylie describes the setting and her two main characters Colleen and Eamonn, one cannot help be transported to the luscious emerald isle

However, more importantly, this book is about home and what it means or can mean to a person. Colleen never doubted her place in life or what she wanted to do…..she loved horses, Inisfree, and as a teenager loved Eamonn. Now she’s faced with a broken down stud farm, expecting a baby and alone.

Due to the passing of his father, Eamonn now owns half of Inisfree and must return to Ireland to face Colleen and his past. As a young man, he left Ireland, his heritage and made his way in the world. In America, he became very successful in the construction field. Now he is faced with a dilemma…..Inisfree, the lovely Colleen and her beautiful newborn daughter Evie. What he does not realize is that he will learn a very valuable lesson and that is what is important in life….family and home.

Rescued Mother-To-Be is intense, sensual and full of heart. I personally fell in love with Inisfree and Ireland. This is truly a love story with a happy ending!

Sicilan Husband, Blackmailed Bride by Kate Walker

Title: Sicilian Husband, Blackmailed Bride

Author: Kate Walker

Line: Presents

Release month: USA - April 07

The S-Factor: Sizzling!

Back-Blurb:

Dark, proud and sinfully gorgeous, Guido Corsentino is determined to reclaim his wife! Outwardly, Amber is perfect and untouchable, but Guido knows the passionate woman inside. One kiss and he's certain she'll give him whatever he demands.

But Guido is also certain of something else: Amber ran away from him once—so she won't be given the opportunity to run again. He'll protect her from the consequences of her actions…in his bed!

Review:

Again, Kate Walker has written a spellbinding story, one that took this reader on such an emotional journey.

Like so many of us who have attended formal wedding’s and heard the clergy say “if anyone knows just cause why these two should not be joined…….”, this is exactly how this story begins and I believe where Ms. Walker got her particular idea for this story. Just think about it for a minute, how would you react if someone spoke out? Well, our handsome, sexy alpha Guido does just that and then some, taking everyone present at the wedding by surprise.

When Amber met Guido in Las Vegas, there was an immediate attraction, strong emotions, and longing. So when Guido realized he had to have her, there was only one choice and that was to ask her to marry him. Amber’s feelings for him were so strong that she immediately said yes and wanted to marry immediately; they did! However, their relationship was based on one of misunderstanding, lack of communication and secrets. When Amber realized she married him and did not know him she ran and with a man she later promised to marry. At this wedding, the story begins.

Guido arrives at the wedding just in time and forces Amber to leave her wedding, confront the groom, admit she is married to Guido and leaves for Sicily and his home. It is there, she finds out his secret…….he’s wealthy, they are married and will remain so and he has not been honest with her. It is here, they both examine themselves, their past, and present and where Amber realizes that she has loved him always, is vulnerable to him and loves him with desperation. And Guido? He believes Amber had never been strong enough to believe in him. He also realizes that he is the only person that has ever stood by her.

I actually felt like I was caught in the eye of a storm. While reading Guido and Amber’s story I was on edge, anticipating at every turn, the outcome, wishing and wanting them to resolve their differences and find love again.

The Sicilian Husband, Blackmailed Bride is the first book in the duo Corsentino’s brother’s series, with Vito’s story being next (The Sicilian's Red-Hot Revenge) . These Sicilian men are strong, hard working and love intensely. I cannot begin to tell you how much I loved this first book and I am looking forward to next

It Happened One Wedding by Ann Roth

Title: It Happened One Wedding
Author: Ann Roth

Line: Harlequin American

Release month: April 2007

The S-Factor: Sweet
Back-Blurb:

When Cammie Yarnell agrees to do a wedding at the Oceanside Bed and Breakfast, she knows the tough part will be keeping a smile on her face. Not too long ago she had planned a walk down the aisle at the sumptuous B and B herself—and called it off. Worse, she is working this event with Curt Blanco, the photographer who knew all about her fiancĂ© is cheating and kept it secret, betraying her trust as a friend.
Yet her anger starts to fade once the showers and dinner parties bring her closer to the man. Now Curt's misguided belief that he is bad for her is standing in the way of Cammie's trip to the altar—with him.
Review:

Ann Roth has penned a warm and charming read in It Happened One Wedding. It made this reader believe again, in happy endings and promise to come.

For some reason when a bride and groom and their families become involved in the planning process of an event that should bring joy and happiness, the wedding plans can sometimes turn into a not so pleasant process. Kelly is planning her wedding with the help of her friend and wedding planner Cammie. Will she be able to keep peace between Cammie and her overbearing father who has ideas of his own? Throw into the mix, Curt, the wedding photographer who is at odds with his former friend the wedding planner! Will this wedding take place “peacefully” in six weeks time?

Cammie Yarnell came from a family who loved and supported her. The previous year she had been engaged to Todd who betrayed her at his bachelor party. She was hurt and never forgave her friend Curt who had introduced them. She blamed Curt for not telling her the sort of man she was marrying.

Curt Blanco at one time, considered Cammie his friend. In fact, she was his first kiss. He was responsible for introducing Cammie to Todd but did not realize what a “player” Todd was or that he would hurt Cammie. He did not believe in love or happy ever after. Why? Because all of his life he had watched his father move from woman to woman and never respecting his mother. His brother’s is also suffered from “failed” relationships so for Curt, he believed he would never travel down the path to matrimony.

I so enjoyed reading this story and watching the interaction between these two very special people Curt and Cammie. It was heart-warming to see them “mend fences”, fighting their attraction for each other and finding love. This was such a romantic story and one I will long remember thanks to this author. It was a book I read from cover to cover and could not put it down once I began Cammie and Curt’s journey in a renewed friendship and finding love.

Review:

Kate Hardy’s fourth novel for the Modern Romance Extra line is absolutely spellbinding! Sexy, sassy and absolutely riveting, In The Gardener’s Bed, is another keeper by this much-loved author.

Amanda Neave finds herself swapping the city for the Cambridgeshire fens when she agrees to star in her friend’s reality show where she has to swap lives with somebody who is her complete opposite – and Will Daynes couldn’t more different than she is! It’s out of control, and she knows she’ll have to leave – like the seven nurses who tended to Kristian before her! But Kristian won’t let her go, and he’ll use every weapon he still has…including that potent masculinity if he has to!

Review:

To describe this book I would use the adjectives passion, pain, loneliness, despair, wealth, determination and pride. This was truly a story which goes to show one that money can’t buy everything…….it can’t buy love and it certainly can’t buy happiness.
Both of these characters came from extreme wealth and position. Kristian Koumantaros was in a horrible accident and not only in pain due to physical injuries but he had lost use of his legs and eye sight. His disposition was so miserable he went through several nurses and sent them all running. Now the owner of an English nursing firm has come to an isolated location in Greece make sure she gets the job done and helps this angry and desolate man heal.

Elizabeth Hatchet suffered her own pain from a failed marriage, and hiding secrets about her past. She has been hired by a woman she believes to be Kristian’s fiancĂ© and if she does not help him to get on his feet, Elizabeth fears she will loose her nursing business. She also becomes aware of just how handsome, rugged and sexy this Greek billionaire is and vows not to succumb to his charm.
However, the tables are turned on both Kristian and Elizabeth as the attraction between them sizzles, a friendship develops and they share an evening of passion. But it doesn’t just stop there……they run into Elizabeth’s ex-husband and her true identity is exposed!
This is a wonderful story about finding peace, respect, joy and love during an incredible healing process. Bravo Jane Porter for again, entertaining your readers with a strong and powerful love story set in beautiful Greece.

The S-Factor: Sizzling!

Back-Blurb:

Alice spent six passionate months as Domenico’s mistress – until she made the worst mistake of all: falling in love. She knew he would never love her back, would soon discard her – so she left him.

But now the fiercely attractive Italian is demanding her back in his bed. And this time, when Domenico finds out she’s carrying his child; he may never let her go
Review:

THE ITALIAN’S FORCED BRIDE by Kate Walker is magnificent; a stunning and powerful love story that I immediately had to read from cover to cover. This love story of Dom and Alice had me in tears, angry and sighing all at once.

Alice who has been Domenico’s Parrisi’s lover for months realizes that she loves him but he is incapable of returning that love. She also overhears gossip one evening that points to him having a mistress so she flees and moves back to England. However, life sometimes plays tricks and for Alice that’s the case when she finds out that she is carrying Dom’s child. She feels she needs to tell Dom of her pregnancy so she writes him a letter asking him to come to her so she can tell him the truth.

Upon Dom’s arrival in England, this story takes on emotions so powerful it leaves the reader sitting on edge. Upon hearing the news, Dom demands marriage and takes Alice back with him to Italy. All I can say so as not to give the story away, is that there are scenes which will take your breath away, secrets and tragedy and in the end a love so sweet and tender it will leave you laughing and crying at the same time.
Congratulations to Kate Walker on yet another magical love story.
