The Boss's Demand by Jennifer Lewis

Title: The Boss's Demand
Author: Jennifer Lewis
Line: Silhouette Desire
Release month North America/ & UK: July 2007
The S-Factor: Simmering
Back-Blurb:
“If you’re having my child, you will marry me”.
Powerful oil tycoon Elan Al Mansur never wanted Sara Daly as his new assistant. Her lush curves and alluring scent would only prove a distraction to what mattered most to him: business. But one night in the desert Elan gave in to his desires, seducing the woman he'd sworn never to touch.Four months later, his secretary revealed she was carrying his baby. Suddenly the stern businessman discovered he didn't want Sara gone at all. But would she agree to her boss's demand that she become his wife?
Review:

If you like reading “boardroom” stories with happy endings then this is the book for you. The Boss's Demand is a simmering and at times, painful love story which will take you on a steamy and sensual journey.
The book begins on a sour note as Elan Al Mansur is telling his Human Resource Director that she must fire his newly hired personal assistant. And why one might ask? Because she is young, attractive and he only wants an older PA because the young women he has employed in the past are after him and his millions.

Sara Daly has a lot to prove to herself and her family. She has taken the responsibility to pay off the hospital debt her mother’s illness strapped her family with and she’s determined to become a success in the oil industry. She has worked long a hard to get her degree in business and geology and no stubborn boss is going to take that away from her let alone fire her on her first day of the job.

You will witness this stubborn woman proving herself not only to her boss, but to the entire company. However, she is strongly attracted to Elan and one evening she succumbs to his charm and charisma and becomes intimate with him. They both realize the mistake and try to get back to business on a professional level. Sara pushes herself to “painful” lengths to prove she is worthy and a professional in the industry.

What Sara is not aware of in the beginning is that Elan needs no one due to his past life with his family. At a young age he is cruelly removed from his family by a heartless and cruel father. What Elan does not like are his feelings of protectiveness and lust for Sara.
Jennifer's characters are both strong in similar yet different ways. The Boss’s Demand was a wonderful debut book and a very enjoyable read and yet sad at times as Elan was an extremely lonely man. It took Sara’s gentleness to heal him because she saw the man himself, not the man of wealth and power.

Tempting by Susan Mallery

Title: Tempting
Author: Susan Mallery
Line: HQN

Release month: North America, UK and Australia: July
The S-Factor: Sizzling and simmering
Back-Blurb:
After three romantic flame-outs in a year and a restaurant career going nowhere, Dani Buchanan needs a fresh start. She goes looking for her biological father, but never expects to find a senator running for president. As his long-lost "love child," Dani could seriously derail the election—something his handsome campaign manager Alex Canfield isn't going to let happen. Dani isn't about to let Alex run her life, no matter how tempting she finds him—and Alex isn't going to allow Dani to melt his cynicism, no matter how close he has to get. The last thing either of them wants is love, especially with scandals brewing and family trouble on the way. But Dani and Alex are forced to trust each other, and when trust turns to passion, the potential for disaster is only a tabloid scandal away.
Review:

Tempting was just that from the moment Dani Buchanan entered the Senator’s office to find out if he was her biological father. What she didn’t expect was to run head on into the handsome and sexy Alex Canfield, the Senator’s adoptive son. Dani’s luck with men during the past few years was a disaster……a failed marriage, a cheating and lying married man; she was his victim, and then meeting an ex-priest, what a mess. So Dani decided she would swear off men and would concentrate on her new job and finding out if Senator Canfield was her biological father.
The only way to describe this book was an emotional one for me and the end of Susan Mallery’s incredible Buchanan family series. The past books sum up my thoughts, Delicious, Irresistible and Sizzling. In each former book you meet Dani’s strong and callous Grandmother Gloria and her three brothers, Cal, Walker and Reid all of whom are involved in Buchanan Enterprises and run a chain of restaurants, a coffee company and a sports bar.

Dani you’ll learn is the only family member other than her sister-in-law Penny in having a career with Buchanan Enterprises. The others are blackmailed by their “nasty” grandmother Gloria into helping save the business and when Gloria becomes seriously ill, they all rise to the cause and pitch in to help out Cal takes over the Waterfront Restaurant, Walker runs the corporation, Reid moves into to the mansion to help out with Gloria and her recovery. However, Dani is hurt that all of her years trying to impress her Grandmother have been for nothing. In the end when Gloria strikes out and tells Dani, she’s not really a Buchanan and that her mother had an affair and she was the product of it, she’s plain and simply devastated.
Of course, she takes stock in her life, swears off men, begins a new job in a new restaurant and sets out to find out who she is with her brothers and sister-in-laws giving her the love and support she needs. During this “discovery” time, her Grandmother realizes with the help of her nurse that she needs to appreciate her family and Gloria rises to the cause, by making amends with her grandsons, their wives and makes strides to mend her relationship with her granddaughter, Dani. The bond these two women form will make you weep!
Tempting is about family, trust, temptation, healing and the power of love. But most of all about family and discovery! I applaud Susan Mallery on her very powerful series, one I will long remember!

Review:
Trish Morey amazes me each time I read one of her stories and this time is no exception. The Spaniard’s Blackmailed Bride is full of punch, power and passion and will have you reaching for a box of tissues.

Briar Davenport has no choice but to marry Diablo Barrentes to save her parents dignity, status and fortune. For if she does not marry Diablo, they will all be living on the streets, no longer living in Sydney’s elite society and the life they’ve been accustom to having for generations.

At times, this was a difficult book to read as you could not miss the attraction Briar felt for Diablo, how he could with just one look or slight touch ignite and melt her heart. But even more so was the inner fight Diablo felt each time he was near Briar and how he tried to shield himself from the emotion she stirred in him.

Briar’s feelings and honour bound behaviour for family was extremely moving. However, as she gets to truly know Diablo those feelings and conflicting emotions for her new husband and then her feelings for her family……well let’s just say you will feel the power of it all!

A marriage of convenience through blackmail? You’ll just have to read it to find out! Lust, attraction, all rolled into one and two unforgettable personalities….the devil himself, Diablo and the proud and stubborn Briar. Thanks Trish Morey for this story so full of attraction and passion.

Which makes him want her all the more? But Arik knows that to get her he has to take things slowly. Rosalie is shy, even withdrawn, as though something has changed her.
However, Arik also knows that once she's at his command Rosalie will open up to receive the loving that only he can give her...
Review:

Annie West has yet again written another powerful love story. This is Annie’s second sheikh book and is set on a beautiful desert coast.

In the Sheikh’s Ransomed Bride (Annie’s first sheikh book) the reader learns that she has a sister Belle who is now the reigning queen of Q’roum and this book focuses on her sister, Rosalie Winter’s visit, along with her niece and mother. Rosalie one learns has come to Q’roum to celebrate her nephew’s birthday. Rosalie has a past, one she cannot escape and while on this visit her family offers to watch her daughter so she can relax and try her hand in a talent lost to her……drawing and painting.

Each day, Rosalie goes to the beach to swim and draw and while there reflects on her past of why she can no longer paint. For years, she has been haunted by an event which happened in college where her drink was “doctored” and she was raped and the incident resulted in a pregnancy and the birth of her lovely daughter. On one particular morning, she sees this handsome man riding on the beach along with his Arabian horses. She is mesmerized by their beauty and power along with their handsome and virile rider. Their owner is Arik, who is bored and frustrated from a leg injury, and has been watching Rosalie from afar. It is his plan to meet her and in the end, begin an affair. After days of letting her draw the horses and the man himself, he realizes that Rosalie is timid and a little shy and that he will have to be patient to win her in the end. He proposes that he show her the sights of his city. In the end, for Rosalie it is a loosing battle and she surrenders to his charms trying to guard her heart. What she fears happens and she falls deeply for Arik full well knowing that he will never commit. He is a man who’s proud, arrogant and always gets his own way. In order to protect herself from further heartbreak, she leaves without a goodbye. Arik is furious when he can’t find her and he doesn’t count on how deeply he feels for her until she’s gone.

What Rosalie does not know is that Arik and the King (her brother-in-law) are related so when he shows up at the birthday celebration for the young Prince it’s a shock to say the least and tensions rise!

For the Sheikh’s Pleasure is truly a magical story full of passion, tenderness and discovery for both Rosalie and Arik.

The Italian Prince's Pregnant Bride by Sandra Marton

Title: The Italian Prince's Pregnant Bride

Author: Sandra Marton

Line: Harlequin Presents

Release month; North America: April 2007 UK: June 2007

The S-Factor: Sizzling, Simmering and very Sexy!

Back-Blurb:

He had to have her, from the moment he saw her. No names, no strings, no seeing her ever again…….

It was payday for Prince Nicolo Barbieri. The Italian aristocrat's negotiations to take over Manhattan's SCB bank were about to bear fruit. But he wasn't expecting Aimee Black, granddaughter of the bank's current owner—who was pregnant with Nicolo's baby!

Nicolo felt duty bound to marry Aimee and give his child his name. But Aimee had other ideas about surrendering herself to this arrogant foreigner, who surely didn't love her!

Review:

Amazing is the only way to describe The Italian’s Pregnant Bride. From the very moment, I began reading Nicolo and Aimee’s story I knew I was in for an exceptional read. The emotion, passion and attraction these two people feel for each other will have you burning the midnight hours away as I promise you will not be able to put this book down.

This is the first book in Sandra’s Billionaire Brides trilogy and if every male character is as charismatic as Nicolo, then the reader is in for sensational entertainment. You get a glance of each of this European princes’ and find they are old school friends, all wealthy, talented, sinfully handsome and have no interest in marriage.

Both of these characters so very dynamic, especially Aimee Black, who one learns later is the granddaughter to James Black the very man Nicolo is to meet later that week.

Nicolo is on a mission to add a New York bank to his empire, which he felt, would be his crown jewel. Therefore, he has travelled to Manhattan to meet with James Black. On his way his hotel, he literally bumps into a stunning woman who is so “prickly” and bad tempered that he kisses her in order to silence her…..had he gone mad? Later, he runs into her at a “private club” owned by a friend and shares an evening of passion with this mystery woman. She flees in the morning and he has absolutely no idea of her identity. Aimee has haunted him because of her insults and not accepting his apology. As he gets to know her he admires her defiance, her passion, her determination, fire and courage.

As luck would have it, he sees her again at the bank meeting and a bomb is dropped on both of them……James Black wants a union, a marriage if the sale is to go though. On top of everything else, Aimee learns she is carrying Nicolo’s child, a result of their night of passion. Of course being the strong alpha male he demands that they marry to give his heir the

Aimee lost her parents at a young age, had never felt loved by her grandfather who raised her upon her parents death. She had always tried to prove herself and was in hopes of someday being promoted to the top to replace her grandfather at the helm of the privately owned and prestigious bank Stafford-Coleridge-Black. Aimee appears to be a strong person but underneath she was lonely and my heart ached for her especially when she realized she had left herself behind and began to ponder what she might have been……

This is where their journey begins….it’s such an unbelievable rollercoaster ride it will have you crying, your heart thumping and anxious to learn more about these two wonderful people. Sandra Marton has yet again, written a beautiful and entertaining story and for me, it will go on my top ten list for 2007.

The Italian's Defiant Mistress by India Grey

Title: The Italian's Defiant Mistress
Author: India Grey
Line: M&B Modern/Harlequin Presents
Release Date: North America October 2007 UK / Australia July 2007
The S-Factor: Simmering
Back-Blurb:
The Italian billionaire's inexperienced mistress Eve Middlemiss has come to Florence desperate for information. And only darkly good-looking multimillionaire Raphael di Lazaro, heir to the Lazaro Fashion House, holds the answers she's searching for. Surrounded by glamour and decadence, Eve is totally out of her depth - until she realizes she is the one Raphael wants!
If becoming the Italian's mistress is what it takes to find out the truth about her family, Eve realizes she must feign the sophistication and experience she's sure Raphael is accustomed to - but that means making herself available to his every desire...
Review:

The Italian’s Defiant Mistress is India Grey’s debut book and it is smashing! Set in Florence and Venice it is full of fashion, glitz, glamour, celebrities and it is very exciting and alluring. Eve Middlemiss was on an assignment for a fashion magazine but more than that, she is on a mission to find out and expose the person who provided her twin sister with drugs and caused her death. Her assignment is to follow a supermodel and in doing so ends up on the runway herself. As she’s nervous and inexperienced she’s told to focus on something while she traverses the runway and she sees a tall, dark and handsome man who she’s immediately drawn to who ends up being Raphael.
Raphael di Lazaro and his half brother Luca are heirs to the di Lazaro fashion house. Raphael’s mission is to expose his brother Luca for what he is…..a “user” and supplier of drugs to models. Raphael has an axe to grind with Luca as his one time girlfriend left him, went to Luca, ended up an addict, and almost died. He is determined not to let his brother ruin or end another model’s life.

Eve is determined as well that she will expose a di Lazaro and make him pay for ending her sister’s life. She believes the responsible person is Raphael because she learns he has been spending some time in Columbia. Later that evening Eve meets up with both men at a party. When Raphael sees Eve with his brother, he feels honour bound to protect her so he grabs and kisses her senseless and boy do the sparks fly. Later he tries to send her home but the spirited and determined Eve refuses.
Eve and Raphael’s journey is passionate, painful and in the end full of sorrow. When Eve discovers she is in love with him and by chance sees Raphael meeting with his ex-girlfriend she misunderstands and flees. The pain she endures upon returning home and then having to reappear in Italy to testify against Luca di Lazaro will break your heart.
This story was an amazing look into the lives of celebrities and fashion models and reminds me so much of what’s now going on in the lives of young actors and in the music industry all over the world. It is certainly a lesson as to how destructive drugs can be in a person life. Then there is the important lesson of how things are not always as they look and how misunderstood and untrusting we can be of those, we love.
I sincerely and thoroughly enjoyed India Grey’s first romance book The Italian’s Defiant Mistress and I personally look forward to reading many more of her entertaining stories.

His Cinderella Bride - Annie Burrows

Title: His Cinderella Bride

Author: Annie Burrows

Line: Historical

Release month: September 2007

The S-Factor: Sizzling

Back-Blurb:

Beggar maid...

Jasper Challinor, Marquis of Lensborough, was appalled! Who was this redheaded, badly dressed waif in his aristocratic host’s dining room? And why in the world was the proud Marquis so drawn to her?

Wealthy lady!

Lord Lensborough was a man well used to getting exactly what he wanted – and he wanted Hester! Convinced that she was a poor relation, the noble lord was about to receive the shock of his life...from a lady who would break all his very proper rules!

Review:

Annie Burrows’ debut historical novel for Harlequin Mills & Boon is a lusty and enthralling tale of love and life in Regency England. The hero of His Cinderella Bride is a wealthy aristocrat on the look-out for a wife – and, in shades of Jane Eyre, he meets her in a country lane in inclement weather, although I don’t remember a scene where Jane fell into a ditch full of muddy water!

After this inauspicious opening, we meet the book’s heroine, Hester, a similarly wealthy woman who hides under the disguise of a poor servant. Soon enough Annie Burrows transports us into a world of mistaken identities, evil, would-be rapists, illegitimate gypsy children, carriage rides, tavern brawls and London society. It’s all utterly charming and engaging, and the author’s conjuring up of an early 19th century atmosphere is very well done.

The book’s strength lies in the characterisation of the hero and heroine. Annie Burrows wisely keeps the focus on these two characters throughout and there’s never any unnecessary diversion to take away from the central romance plot. The dialogue is rich and full of passion and the romantic scenes are understated and heart-warming, everything you could wish from a category romance.

His Cinderella Bride is a brilliant piece of writing and a story I enjoyed and identified with from beginning to end. Annie Burrows is an accomplished writer and I look forward to seeing more of her work on the strength of this book.

Review:

Set in the beautiful Irish isle of Valentia, Bride of the Emerald Isle is a spellbinding romance that will tug at your heartstrings and keep you enthralled from the first page till the final full stop.

City girl Keelin has left Dublin behind for the rural island of Valentia to find answers to questions which have haunted her for her entire life. But a relationship with Garrett is out of the question for not only is Garrett tied to the countryside and to his teenage daughter and elderly father, but he also may hold the key to her past – which could jeopardize her future…

Poignant, tender, moving, engrossing and wonderfully romantic, Bride of the Emerald Isle is category romance at its absolute best!

The Italian's Wife by Sunset by Lucy Gordon

Title: The Italian’s Wife by Sunset
Author: Lucy Gordon

Line: Harlequin Romance

Release month: North America and UK August 2007

The S Factor: Sweet

Back-cover blurb:

Intelligent, sensible Della Hadley should've known better than to embark on an affair with a playboy Italian six years her junior, but vibrant and sexy Carlo Rinucci was just too hard to resist....

Della knows that a fiery passion so quick to ignite should be fast to die out, despite Carlo's vow that their love is forever. But Carlo is Italian through and through, and determined to win his woman and make Della his bride before the sun sets on their affair.

Review:
Della is thirty-six years old. A big shot television producer with her own production company, a brilliant reputation and low expectations of men.

When she needs a serious expert to front her latest TV series her assistant comes up with Carlo Rinucci — a thirty year old, shaggy-haired archeologist with striking good looks and a wicked grin. Determined not to be misled by his youthful looks Della travels to Naples to assess him in person.

Exhilarating, passionate, charming, Carlos more than lives up to his promise — both professionally and personally. He is equally fascinated by Della and they swiftly plunge into an affair.

Despite his Jack-the-lad image, Carlos wants a forever relationship, whereas Della, seeing the age difference as a huge barrier to long-term happiness, can’t give him the commitment he craves.

But underneath Carlo’s boyish charm lies a steely core. For the first time in his life he finds himself having to fight for what he wants. Can Della dig into herself to find the same courage?

Lucy Gordon’s fast-paced romance novel is both sad and uplifting, A charming, emotional, lump-in-the-throat read which grips your attention right up to the final page. I strongly recommend it.

Italian Husbands
They’re tall, dark…and ready to marry!

Review:

Christina Hollis’ second novel for Mills and Boon Modern Romance, Count Giovanni’s Virgin, is absolutely terrific! Richly sensual, highly evocative and absolutely breathtaking, Christina Hollis is a writer who is destined to become one of M&B’s most popular authors.

When Interior designer Katie Carter was asked to renovate the Tuscan Villa belonging to the enigmatic Count Giovanni Amato, she never thought that she would find herself falling for the Villa’s enigmatic owner or that she would be giving him her virginity.

Man of the world Giovanni knows that he should give shy virgin Katie a wide berth as to get involved with her would mean reopening old wounds which still haven’t healed properly. But he cannot resist Katie and when she announces that she’s expecting his baby, he proposes a marriage of convenience – even though he can’t help but wish that his marriage to Katie would be the real deal.

I love Christina Hollis’ books! Sexy, sensual, dramatic and engrossing, Count Giovanni’s Virgin is a fabulously passionate tale that will delight romance readers everywhere!

Break Up to Make Up by Fiona Harper

Title: Break Up to make up

Author: Fiona Harper

Line: Harlequin Romance/M&B Romance

Release month and release location: August 2007

The S-Factor: Sweet

Back-cover blurb: A rustic farmhouse, the warmth of a crackling fire, and breathtaking views of the countryside make the perfect setting for the most romantic evenings...

For Nick and Adele Hughes this idyllic evening for two is the last place either of them wants to be. Their marriage over, they never believed they could find their way back to each other. But, stranded in this picturesque cottage, Nick and Adele find they cannot resist the spark that has always fizzed between them.

As the twinkling firelight begins to work its magic, this couple discover the wonderful thing about breaking up is making up...

Review: Adele starts the story as a fiercely independent perfectionist, convinced she’s right about everything including the notion that her husband chose a once-in-a-lifetime job over her and the relationship has no future.

When he dive-bombs back into her life she’s adamant that no matter how much they care for each other or how strong the chemistry between them, she has to keep her heart safe from this man. Even if that means pushing for a divorce.

Nick has other ideas. He wants his wife back and is determined to break through her who-needs-men-stuff-em attitude and make her see that they were meant to be together.

But something happened during the time he spent away. Something that Nick doesn’t know about and Adele can’t bring herself to tell him. It will take more than Nick’s little boy charm to break through Adele’s proud barriers and regain her trust.

Break Up to Make Up is a fast paced, emotion packed read, filled with tension, longing and humour. I especially liked the big hairy spider, the descriptions of Super Adele (the heroine’s alter ego) and a bossy satellite navigation system with an attitude to rival Adele’s.

Harlequin Romance at its best. This book belongs on your must-read list.
